This wonderful Royal Doulton Water Jug depicts The White Hart Inn at Southwark. These jugs were introduced in 2 phases - 1935/7 and 1949-53. They appear to have been withdrawn by 1960. The jug measures approximately 5 1/2" tall and 7 3/4" from the edge of the handle to the end of the spout. It is about 3 1/2" wide. The relief molding is very sharp and crisp. Each side is a different scene.

It is marked on the bottom - "THE PICKWICK PAPERS BY CHARLES DICKENS, CHARACTERS MR. PICKWICK MEETS SAM WELLER FULL OF QUAINT WISDOM, THE FAT BOY ALWAYS SOMNOLENT IN ANY POSITION, TONY WELLER TYPICAL COACHMAN. SAMS FATHER SAMIVEL BEVARE OF THE VIDDERS. THE WHITE HART INN AT SOUTHWARK" (See photo for more detail). It also bears the Registration No: 817035 as well as the Royal Doulton mark.

Excellent condition - no chips, cracks or repairs. Truly a fabulous piece!
